Transition and information sharing

We are dedicated to ensuring a smooth and positive transition for your child into Abbot’s Lea School. Our comprehensive approach includes the following steps:

Initial Meeting:

  • Our Assistant Headteachers will schedule an initial meeting with the child’s current setting to discuss the child’s needs and strengths
  • Our Assistant Headteachers will schedule an initial meeting with you as the family to discuss strengths, needs and any concerns
  • The current setting, family and Assistant Headteacher will develop an individualised transition plan tailored to the child’s specific requirements
  • You are welcome to purchase school uniform for your child, or you may like to consider getting it for free from our pre-loved uniform shop. The class teacher will discuss this with you.

Visit Days:

  • Your child’s new Class Teacher will visit your child to complete a SCERTS assessment and to create an initial One Page Profile
  • Assistant Headteachers will arrange visit days for your child to meet their teacher, and interact with future classmates. This may be in our “transition week” (the last week of the summer term) or if your child is joining at a different point in the year, may be during the week prior to their official start date
